On October 13, Huang Runqiu, President of the Fifteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, chaired the COP Bureau meeting by video. The Bureau discussed preparations of the second part of COP15 and the fifth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (WG2020-5) .

David Cooper, Deputy Executive Secretary of CBD, representatives of Environment and Climate Change Canada, members of the COP15 Bureau, Co-chairs of WG2020, Chair of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI), and Chair of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) participated in the meeting.

Huang Runqiu commended the work of the Informal Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, as well as the progress made in the preparatory work and the proposed organization of work for the second part of COP15 and WG2020-5. He emphasized the need to optimize the arrangement of these meetings for the conclusion of the Framework and the important role of the High-Level Segment in facilitating negotiation. All parties are called upon to maintain the political momentum, create opportunities for multilevel and all-round coordination to build consensus on the GBF to ensure the success of the second part of COP15.
