On October 25, Huang Runqiu, President of the Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity and Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, met with Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Climate and Environment of Norway by video. The two sides had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on COP15 and the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
Huang Runqiu thanked Norway for its strong support to China's presidency and active participation in the preparations of the second part of COP15 and the consultation process of the GBF, especially its contribution as the co-lead of the informal group on digital sequence information on genetic resources. The two sides exchanged views on resource mobilization, protected area targets and other issues. Huang Runqiu expressed the hope that Norway can continue to play a coordinating role to promote consensus on GBF. Espen Barth Eide spoke highly of the leadership of China's COP presidency, appreciated the concepts of promoting green development and harmonious coexistence between humans and nature proposed at the 20th CPC National Congress, and expressed Norway’s continued support for advancing the negotiation of the GBF and ensuring the success of the second part of COP15.
