A Series of Publicity Campaigns for COP15 Themed by "Diversified Worlds, Life and Growth in Nature" were Launched

  A series of publicity campaigns for the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) themed by "Diversified Worlds, Life and Growth in Nature" were launched in Beijing on September 26. Huang Runqiu, Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, attended the launching ceremony and delivered a speech. Elizabeth Mrema, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, gave a speech in video form.

  Huang Runqiu said that in recent years, China has vigorously promoted the biodiversity protection, and related work has achieved remarkable results and has been widely recognized by the international community under the guidance of Xi Jinping's thought on ecological civilization. The phase I meeting of the COP15 will begin in Kunming on October 11 this year, at which, conduct extensive discussions on the new target for global biodiversity for 2030, and promote a balanced, enforceable and executable post-2020 global biodiversity action framework. At the 15-day countdown to the meeting, a series of publicity campaigns for COP15 were launched, designed to further enhance the public's awareness of ecological civilization and environmental science literacy, guide and motivate all sectors of society to participate in biodiversity protection, create a good public opinion atmosphere for the successful holding of COP15, and promote the international community to build a living community on earth.

  Huang Runqiu stressed and hoped that all sectors of society, especially units participating in a series of publicity campaigns would deeply publicize Xi Jinping's thought on ecological civilization and explain to the world its rich connotation, value of times and world significance; vigorously promote tremendous achievements in China's ecological civilization construction, especially biodiversity protection, tell the story of China's biodiversity protection, and contribute Chinese wisdom and provide Chinese approaches to global environmental governance; strengthen the publicity, education and knowledge dissemination of biodiversity protection, guide and drive the public to consciously practice a green and low-carbon lifestyle, and preserve the ecological environment with concrete moves. He hoped that in everyone's efforts, the whole society would take active actions to pay more attention to, support and participate in biodiversity protection, and make contributions that one is able to make to building a harmonious and beautiful home.

  Mrema pointed out that human health, wealth and well-being are based on the genetic diversity, diversity of species and ecosystem diversity of our planet. A sustainable future requires all the public, enterprises, organizations, and governments to take actions to protect and sustainably use biodiversity to ensure that we share benefits equally. The theme of this campaign "Diversified Worlds, Life and Growth in Nature" reflects the vision and mission of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and is a powerful call made to the world. China and the world are ready to lead unprecedented changes ambitiously and we will join hands to promote the biodiversity protection and agenda for sustainable development.

  A series of publicity campaign introduction short films, joint initiative video of participation units and "Say Slogan with Hill and Small Water" animation were also played at the launching ceremony. Guest representatives from China Film Foundation, xuexi.cn, China Global Television Network and other participation units made speeches.

  This campaign was hosted by the Department for Environmental Education and Communications of Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the COP15 Executive Committee Office. Relevant departments and units of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, heads of the COP15 Executive Committee Office, participation units of a series of publicity campaigns and media representatives attended the launching ceremony.

  According to the schedule, 25 central media, public interest organizations, Internet platforms and enterprises will continue to launch a great variety of substantial publicity campaigns such as biodiversity protection special answers, works exhibition, themed flights, high-speed train publicity, playing of public welfare short films by global media, book release, photography and painting collection and ecological film week as of today until next April, which provide channels and platforms for the public to learn about COP15 and biodiversity knowledge and participate in the biodiversity protection practice.
